Finding the Owner’s Manual
How I found the Silva Method
Ever since I was a kid, I knew there was more to my mind than I was being taught.
I didn’t have a name for it. School taught me what to think. Nobody taught me how the thing doing the thinking actually worked.
That started to change when I found a book. The title was something like How to Hypnotize Yourself and Others. I read it and began practicing what people today would call meditation.
It was the first time anyone had given me a way in.
In high school I took a Transcendental Meditation class. It was a real step forward. I could go inside. I could settle the noise. But something was still missing. I could get there. I just didn’t know what to do once I arrived.
Then, after college, I was introduced to the Silva Method. And I met José Silva.
This was what I had been looking for.
It felt like finding the owner’s manual to my mind. Not a philosophy. Not another way to sit still. A clear account of how the mind actually works — and how to use it more effectively, on purpose, in the rest of my life.
I had been looking for that book since I was a kid. I just didn’t know it until I found it.
José Silva had discovered that the mind isn’t just along for the ride. Train it right, and it becomes the most powerful performance tool you have. Focus sharpens. Decisions come faster and cleaner. That background hum of stress stops running the show.
That is what I had been looking for since childhood. So I trained extensively in the Silva Method and became an instructor in 1982.
I have applied those skills in a professional career in technology and software development. I have shared them as a lecturer, a YouTube influencer, and the host of large meditation gatherings.
I am an author, a teacher, and a lifelong researcher of meditation and human potential. I share simple, practical methods for using meditation every day—to reduce stress, solve problems, learn faster, and support better health.
My teaching style is hands-on and empowering. I want students to succeed—and often to go further than their teacher.
I founded The Silva Method KY to bring these techniques to the people who need them most: professionals under pressure, real estate agents chasing impossible targets, pilots who need ice-water calm on command, leaders who already have the skills but can feel the ceiling, and any high-performer who suspects there’s another gear they haven’t found yet.
I am not a monk. I am not a guru. I am someone who figured out how to think better under pressure—and spent years building the curriculum, the community, and the tools around exactly that.
I am also a father, musician, gardener, photographer, leadership mentor, and business owner.
